Dear Parents,
We really enjoyed our Halloween parade and party today! Many thanks to the parents who made it possible by either sending in food, setting up or cleaning up!
The class worked on saint reports earlier this week and shared them with each other. It was great to become a little familiar with some of our saints.
Next Monday (November 2) will be a food bank/casual dress day. Our food bank collection last month was wonderful--thanks so much!
We'll attend an all-school Mass next Friday, November 6 at 9:00 am. I've been very proud of the Mass behavior of this class.
A new list of spelling words is on the website now--concept stressed is magic/silent e. The test is Friday, November 6.
We'll start the 2nd quarter of the school year on Monday.
A hard copy of the report card for the 1st quarter will be sent home Friday, November 6.
I've been pleased with the effort I've seen during the first quarter!
Ann O'Connor from Art Unlimited was here last Thursday to prep our class project (a green and white mosaic cross). This will be up for bids at the Faith and Fundamental Auction on Nov. 13--it's going to be beautiful
Have a nice weekend and a fun Halloween tomorrow night !

Dear Parents,
It was a busy and fun week as we finish 36 days of school today!
Next week will be very special with our All Saints Day Party and parade on Friday. Many thanks to Diane Golzynski for being our head room parent. She'll be contacting parents who signed up to help with the All Saints party!
Students may bring their Saint costume to school and will change at 1:45. Please check with the office for the time of the parade
(usually 2 pm-- outside weather permitting). The parade will begin at the exit door closest to our room and will end at the gym. Please keep it simple--no makeup please. There is a sheet in the Friday folder with ideas for costumes for you to check out.
We'll be doing saint reports next week and learning about these holy people.
We're going to attend a K-5 Mass next Friday, October 30.
New spelling words are on this website now--homophones being the concept stressed. Thanks for studying spelling with your child!
Next week is the end of the first quarter (Friday Oct. 30) It has gone very fast and it has been a pleasure to work with your child!
Have a good weekend,
Janice Robke

Dear Parents,
Our week was great--we have finished 31 days of school and are adjusting quite well.
Mrs. Jessica Henry, who will be our Junior Achievement volunteer, visited us on Tuesday and spent some time getting to know us. The Junior Achievement program for 2nd graders covers our social studies unit on Communities. Mrs. Henry, a Jackson National employee, will be with us for 5 weeks starting next Tuesday. The program lasts 45 min-1 hour for each session. We're looking forward to having her in our classroom!
I'm sure you've heard about the song we've been learning! We are now ready to have you come and watch us sing "Jacob and Sons!" This song from the musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" goes perfect with the Old Testament Bible stories I've been reading to the class. This class has been working hard and is quite talented!
We have performed for the Kindergartners, the Developmental Kindergartners, the first graders, and for the 2nd graders in Mrs. McFee's class! It was a pretty packed room! We did so well that next week we'll invite parents, grandparents, friends and loved ones to stop in. Approximate time for the performance is 10-15 min.
Our times for performing will be:
Monday, October 19th
8:20 a.m. (after morning prayer)
1:00 p.m.
Tuesday October 20
11:30 a.m.
2:30 p.m.
If you can't make it and could stop by another time--we'd be glad to sing it for you! Just let me know.
It's been a lot of fun--and the students have been learning how to follow directions, how to memorize and read the lyrics. Overall it's been a great experience!
Have a great weekend!

Dear Parents,
We accomplished a lot this week! We just finished our 26th day in 2nd grade--it's going very fast!
Next week 2nd graders will be doing the reading and gift-bearing at our Friday Mass. If your child is doing a reading thanks for practicing with them. We'll practice here for sure too. Everyone will have a chance to take part this year.
We welcomed 2 new MSU students in our room this week! Miss Heidi and Miss Jenna will be with us 4 hours every week. They'll also teach 2 lessons each semester after consulting with me. I look forward to having them with us. It's wonderful to be so close to MSU and take advantage of this opportunity!
We had a fun science lesson with Mrs. McFee about leaves--we made leaf rubbings to display in our room.
Wednesday I was at a meeting at the Diocese of Lansing educational offices about our new math curriculum. It's a brand new curriculum just being adopted this year diocesan-wide. This continuity should help our students excel in math.
Our new spelling words stressing the -ear-air sound are now on the website.
Thanks for your support of our book fair--what a great learning opportunity Mrs. Mayotte sets up for us!
We're reading our AR books in reading along with Building Vocabulary and Making Meaning. In Math we're learning subtraction strategies and doing reflex. Our religion lessons include the Holy Trinity and rosary study.
Have a great weekend,
Janice Robke
Please note: Our classmate Jadyn Anderson is missing a green fleece with her name on the tag--if anyone finds it at your house by mistake please send it in--thanks so much!

It has been so nice to meet with you during the conference sessions. Thank you for coming to discuss your child's progress. Please feel free to contact me anytime with concerns you may have.

We'll attend Mass on Friday, Oct. 9th--an all-school Mass to continue the celebration of our parish's 75th anniversary.

Dear Parents,
The highlight of our week last week was our field trip to the Country Mill on Thursday! Many thanks to our hard-working, dependable chaperones: Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Hutchinson, and Mrs. Rubsam. Our science lesson on the importance of bees in pollination, our visit into the apple cooler and our hayride to pick our pumpkin and apple were just a few of the fun parts of the trip! It was also fun to be with our friends from Room 103!
This week we will not attend Mass because the priests will be at a retreat. Our next Mass will be on Friday, Oct. 9 at 9 am --an all-school Mass.
Conferences will be Wed. Sept. 30 from 4-8 pm and Thursday Oct. 1 from 12-8 pm. If you didn't receive your scheduled time (in the Friday Folder) please let me know. I look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child's progress after 4 weeks of school. Please note: Due to conferences we'll have an 11:30 dismissal on Thursday and no school on Friday, Oct. 2.
We've been learning how addition and subtraction are related, are learning about the ck word family and are continuing our rosary study in Religion and map study in social studies. Everyone is doing a great job so far.
Have a nice week--Janice Robke

Dear Parents,
We had a very good week last week--our first 5 day school week!
Looking ahead we will be very busy--Monday (tomorrow) is picture day! Dress may be dress-up and no jeans or sweat pants are allowed.
We enjoyed our Monday specials last week for the first time--Music, Computers and Library.
If anyone would still like to help out as a library aide--please contact Mrs. Mayotte at [email protected]
I am pretty sure we have 3 helpers but Mrs. Mayotte would like to have 1 or 2 more if possible. The time involved is 1 or 2 times a month. Our library time is Mondays 2:15-2:55 which is very convenient to help and pick up students for dismissal. Thanks for your consideration.
We welcomed Jimmy Costello to our classroom on Friday. He will be with us for 3 weeks and has been a wonderful addition to our class!
Thursday we'll go on a field trip to the Country Mill in Charlotte. It's going to be a science/team-building day for us! Please refer to the slip that was in the Friday folder for information. It should be a fun, learning day for us! If you'd like to chaperone please let me know--you could ride the bus or meet us there. We'll be there approx. from 9:30-1.
Over the weekend I sent an e-mail about conferences times on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1--I'll be sending a paper copy to those who didn't e-mail back. Please send in requests for times by Tuesday. Thanks so much!
We've been reading our AR books, and our Making Meaning books, learning about the rosary in religion, and learning about adding numbers up to 20. Mrs McFee had a fun science lesson about bees and we started our brand-new social studies books on Friday.
It's been fun learning our routine and everyone is doing a wonderful job! Reflex Math is also very popular and fun!
I look forward to conferences to discuss your child's progress.
Have a good week!
