Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe this is the last week of the 2nd quarter! This Friday, January 22 the students will have no school as teachers have a Professional Development Day.
Report cards will be sent home January 29. I've seen a lot of growth and progress in this class. Thanks for your support and help with homework!
This week we'll attend an All-school Mass on Wednesday, January 20 at 9:00 a.m.
We are enjoying our religion lessons with Mrs. Kitching on Tuesdays. She is doing additional lessons about Reconciliation and it helps the children to understand this sacrament.
We've been doing a lot of 2-digit subtraction with regrouping (borrowing)! It is still challenging but the students are enjoying it.
We've been learning a lot about the great leader Dr. Martin Luther Ling, Jr. last week and this week. The students have put together a folder with information and we'll finish it up this week. Our service projects for today have been--making placemats for Meals on Wheels and writing letters to soldiers in Afghanistan. Everyone did a wonderful job on these projects!
Mrs. Krusky has requested during Catholic Schools Week Feb. 1-5 that our students bring in items for the people in Flint who have been suffering during the water crisis there. Donations can include: bottled water, children's books, and diapers. Coats, hats, mittens are also accepted. Thank you in advance for all of your generous support.
Have a wonderful week!

Dear Parents,
Our week ahead looks good--we'll be working hard in the classroom continuing to work on Reconciliation in Religion class.
You can choose one of the 2 nights offered for your child to receive this sacrament (Monday, February 8 at St. Thomas Aquinas church, or Tuesday, February 9 at St. Johns church). Both services are identical and begin at 6:30 p.m. They should last one hour or less. Thank you for going over the Religion homework with your child.
We'll attend Mass this Friday, January 15 with the K-5th graders. Second graders are doing the reading and gift-bearing. Their readings were sent home last Friday. Thanks for practicing with your child if they have a reading!
Spelling words cover the concept of magic e--(generous e or bossy e) as we've called this concept. Everyone worked hard to get the words written 3 times each and written in their planner.
In math this week we'll move on to 2-digit subtraction with regrouping.
We'll welcome back our MSU interns Miss Jenna and Miss Heidi from their winter break also.
Thank you for all you do and have a good week!

Dear Parents,
Happy New Year!
It's hard to believe we're back to school tomorrow! This my favorite time of year in the classroom because of few interruptions and much can be accomplished.
We have 3 weeks left in the 2nd quarter of this school year. The last day of the 2nd quarter--January 22nd--will be a Professional Development day for teachers and no school for students.
Report cards will be sent home January 29th.
This week we'll attend Mass on Friday, January 8th at 9 am---an All-School Mass.
Spelling words for January 4-8 will be found on this website.
Monday, January 4 will be Food Bank/Casual dress day. Thanks so much for sending food in!
Our main focus will be on receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation in Religion class. We will continue the studying we've started before Christmas. More information will be coming home this month.
In Math we'll continue to learn about 2-digit addition with regrouping (carrying) and develop our skills in 2-digit subtraction (borrowing). It'll be challenging but it is so important for students to master these concepts along with memorizing addition and subtraction basic facts. We'll be working on Reflex Math in class and hopefully the students are working at home too.
In reading we'll continue AR books and Word Revelation materials. Also Making Meaning and Building Vocabulary (spelling) will be used to help students grow in reading skills.
I look forward to the Art cottage opening! Students will love having art class in there instead of our classroom. Per the e-mail sent by Ms. Carroll--please have your child bring in a plain folder to keep art materials in. We have Art on Wednesdays at 10:40-11:50 am. Please stop in anytime!
Reminder--Monday at 2:15 we have library--please help your child to remember to bring back library books!
Have a great week--it'll be nice to get back to our routine--Janice Robke

Dear Parents,
We've had a wonderful week--the best part was sponsoring the Adopt-a-Family family program at our school! The halls were literally over-flowing with gifts. Thank you for your generosity! Many thanks to Pam Coffey for her dedication and hard work spear-heading our classroom communication and organizing our lists, etc. We are truly blessed here at STA! I've posted some cute photos of our 8th grade helpers with us on our website. Noelle LaPorte and Nate Stewart were great helpers every morning!
Next week we;ll have a wonderful time getting ready for Christmas and finishing up our Advent studies.
Thursday our program is at 1:30 in the church--the students have practiced for many weeks for this!
Friday morning at 9:00 am we'll attend an all-school Mass. The 2nd graders are doing the readings. If your child is doing a reading it was sent home in their backpack today. Thanks in advance for practicing with them!
Friday is our Christmas party at 2:15. If you would like your child to take part in the $5 book exchange please send in a gender-friendly book to exchange.
There will be no spelling list or test next week. I'll post the next list by Friday of next week.
Have a great weekend!

Dear Parents,
Thank you for making our fundraiser so successful last Friday! The golf ball drop was amazing and the students really liked watching it. The silent and live auctions were very successful also. It was a very exciting week! I'm sure we'll hear more this week about the results and final information.
This week we'll attend Mass on Friday, November 20th at 9:00 am with the K-5th graders.
Please keep the Elliott family in your thoughts and prayers. Mrs. Elliott's mother--beloved Grandma Patti passed away last week. Maren has told us many wonderful things about her grandmother and we loved hearing about her. We have included this intention and others in our rosaries.
Our spelling list this week highlights the -old, -olt and -oll sounds. Our test is Friday, Nov. 20th.
As our second quarter begins everyone is working very hard. We're working on phonics from Word Revelation written by Ms. Dillon and our AR books. We're also working on Reflex math and have started learning about the colonies in Social Studies. Mrs. McFee is continuing a fun unit on space. In religion we're reading Bible stories and Psalms. We'll begin our study of the sacrament of Reconciliation after Thanksgiving vacation. We'll receive the sacrament in early February.
Thank you for working with your child on their homework--it really helps them a lot.
Have a good week!
